CrossFit is about more than fitness, and the bond of the CrossFit community is unrivaled. Not only will you find community within your own class or box, like here at Triforce, but you can travel anywhere and be welcomed into the family. It is an amazing feeling to know you belong to a community at any time in your life – but especially if you are trying to reach a goal, pull out of a dark place, improve your health and fitness, have just moved to a new area, or gone through a big life change. Having a support system makes it easier to commit to showing up and a lot more fun!
The CrossFit community bonds over mutual suffering and hard physical work. There is camaraderie in pushing each other to be their best, vulnerability in trying new things, and a shared desire to have a more fulfilling life. The beautiful thing is that the community is made up of people from different backgrounds, different careers, different political beliefs and different sizes – but those things DO NOT inhibit your name being known, you being cheered for, you being checked on when you don’t show up for a few days, or you being cared about in general. There is a valuable support system in place!
At Triforce, we truly believe that CrossFit can be a valuable tool for supporting anyone struggling with mental health, struggling to get into a fitness routine, coming back from an injury, or anyone looking to find a community to belong to. We see it happening each week in our gyms – an athlete walks in, looking more down than usual, and someone in class or the coach asks if they are okay. After a listening ear, a hug, or a slap on the butt, they grab their gear and get to work. Pretty soon, the focused energy and thoughts are on the task at hand – the skill they have been practicing or the rep scheme the coach has laid out for the WOD. Suddenly, this athlete is accomplishing what they once thought impossible and those around them know exactly what went into that achievement and are equally as proud of them. As the end-of-class fist bumps and good-byes happen, that same person walks out stronger and more resolved to tackle whatever the rest of the day or the next day holds.
The CrossFit community is so much more than fitness – it’s a tribe! What couldn’t you do that you can do now? How does that apply to every other self-limiting belief you have? Do you have a tribe to help you commit to showing up and working on those things? We would love to have you join ours!
