We get it. CrossFit can be intimidating. But CrossFit is designed for ANYONE to be able to participate and benefit from. Just ask Phillip. He will tell you “Crossfit isn’t just for 20-somethings looking to stay fit and healthy; it’s also an excellent way to be active as you age.”
Meet Phillip- Age 75, from Long Island, New York, he began CrossFit at the age of 69.
These are his very own words from an interview where he describes his experience with CrossFit, and with TriForce specifically…
Phillip started doing CrossFit after his daughter-in-law challenged him, and he’s been doing it for 6 years. CrossFit changed him in such a way that he now has more energy and is able to focus on a variety of things, despite the fact that he is semi-retired, has no real hobbies, and does not want to live a sedentary life. He is energized to go to the gym every day, and he does it five to six days a week, which gives him a lot of endurance. He even started running, which he used to despise, and was able to complete a half marathon in 2019. A few other amazing things Phillip has accomplished since joining CrossFit is doing Murph in under an hour and he did 4 out of 5 workouts RX in the Open, which was one of his biggest accomplishments. Philip is the type of person who sets certain goals every year, it may be in weightlifting, running, or specific accomplishments on certain workouts and he got up to doing 24-inch box jumps, which is simply amazing.
Unlike at his previous gym, he was able to work out with different people at Triforce, and he had an incredible coach who came up with different exercise programs every day, which gives him the motivation to do better at what he’s doing. In a typical gym, 90% of the people are on a treadmill, which is also good, but he finds it too quiet. Having repetitive and monotonous workouts can be boring and discouraging at times because there is no guidance from a coach and no energy from other people doing it with you.
Triforce not only offers different workouts but also has a nutrition program and physical therapy. They give you a strength portion for the day and guidance on various levels. It is structured in a way that you can be at the beginner level, which is very simple to do a certain workout, and you work your way up into different levels as you progress. TriForce coaches will not just simply improve your skill, but also keep you from getting hurt.
Phillip has taught us all a lot since joining TriForce. He is a constant reminder to keep pushing and to make sure you are willing to try new things. He makes sure that every time he takes a class, he is encouraging everyone around him to get better. His willingness to learn and listen has helped him continue to get stronger and more fit every year.
And after talking to Phillip there is one thing you can be sure of, “You are never too old for CrossFit.”
